Most of us are familiar with seeing our family nurse at the doctor's office. In fact Doctor's or Physician's offices are one of the leading employers of nurses. Doctors nurses are employed to assist with the care and management of patients, and work directly under the supervision of one or more doctors.
A nurse is often the first person we have contact with at the doctor's office. As a trained professional doctor nurses have undergone specific training to be able to help care for us and our families. Facilities try to minimize their vacancies for nurses because they play such a vital role in the doctor's office.
Only registered nurses are able to work in a doctor's office. Nurses are required to obtain a minimum of two years of training, an associate nursing degree and to pass the certification examines for the state. Even though many nurses are not specialized, you will find an increasing number that have obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Additionally, nurses in doctor's offices undergo vigorous background screening in both child abuse registries and criminal databases.
Training to become a Registered Nurse is vigorous and demanding, composed of both technological and medical training. A nurse must be familiar with thousands of medial terms and medications, along with being able to perform tests such as drawing blood, and using x-ray and laboratory equipment. The medical training aspect often includes a huge amount of time learning the physiological and psychological aspects of a person, along with physical anatomy. A nurse must know how to bandage, remove stitches, and perform routine tests, often in very stressful situations. It is not surprising with all the requirements needed to become a certified RN that there are so many vacancies for nurses. There is a great deal of expense and time required to obtain this level of achievement. It takes very dedicated and determined individuals to make it through all the rigorous training and all the stressors associated with becoming a registered nurse. When a nurse undergoes training, they perform rotations or a type of residency within a hospital or clinical setting. Just like a doctor, a nurse in training has the option of choosing a specific type of nursing care to specialize. When a specific one such as Gerontology or Psychiatrics is not chosen, the nurse becomes known as a staff nurse. Staff RNs working in a doctor's office perform many varied and routine tasks. Depending on the size of the doctor's practice, the RN may also do clerical work such as preparing files and inputting medical data within a computer. In the course of a day an RN may see babies, adults and the elderly all displaying a variety of medical conditions. Typically, a nurse may meet with the patient before the doctor does. A urse will ask questions, discuss the patient's ailment and take detailed notes of any present or recurring condition, to assist the Doctor in their diagnosis. If a blood test or x-ray needs to be performed it is often the nurse who will do it, to allow the doctor to spend more time with the patient. If further examinations are needed, a nurse generally assists the doctor. Nurses within doctor's offices often feel like an extended part of our family. They may help us implement health and wellness plans. Often we have the same family nurse in our lives for many years, which observe and assist us with various medical concerns. Doctors nurses play a vital role in all of our lives.
